Our Adopted Grandmother and Great Grandmother

Created by t s-s 5 years ago

When Mum's sister, Auntie Pam married Uncle David we not only gained an uncle, but also a pair of "adopted grandparents", known affectionately as "Mrs and Mrs Rich". They joined us at many a family occasion. Anne was always immaculately dressed and coiffured, always relaxed, smiling and laughing. I remember thinking how tall and slim she was next to our other grand parents! She listened with interest to all our stories about school, achievements, interests and holidays, and as we grew up about university, careers, boyfriends and girlfriends! They came to our weddings and the Christenings of our children.

Anne's afternoon teas were legendary. When Stephanie and Gregory were pre-school we used to pop round for tea. They always remembered their birthdays and one year Steph brought her tea set and play-food to show Anne and Bob. They had endless patience and for hours pretended to drink imaginary tea and to 'eat' the plastic slice-able pizza and birthday cake they'd contributed!

If I close my eyes and think of Mrs. Rich I see her warm smile and hear her happy, musical, laugh and that lovely accent. We were so lucky to have her in our family. God bless you Mrs Rich.
